RAINIER — Slipping, sliding and powering up hills and through boggy grass, Rainier proved to be a course for the hard cases. Rain in the preceding days and the night before soaked the course pretty well, but skies cleared and weather turned dry as the day wore on. Nearly 1,000 riders, their friends, family and fans ventured to this port town across the Columbia River from Longview, Wash., for race #2 of the 2011 Crusade.
