The Banana Belt II race took place on Sunday, 07 March, 2010. The race sponsors ran the race counter-clockwise around Hagg Lake, putting the bikes in the outside lane around the lake. All connecting roads and all driveways exit from the outside lane creating, in effect, a rolling blockade of all of the residences. Additionally, because of the direction of the race, residents had the option of following large gaggles of bike or going the other way around the lake thus forcing the cars to turn across the racing lane and increasing the danger of vehicle/bicycle interactions. Furthermore, the large groups of cyclists had three pace cars, one in the front and two at the rear, with one of the rear pace cars driving into the oncoming traffic lane to prevent cars from passing. When last I spoke with the Washington County Sheriff's office, I was told that behavior was illegal and that I should report it.

I was in the race. BG was nowhere to be seen all race long. That's fine, I guess, if that's how you want to play. He was the one screaming and yelling as he crossed the line, throwing, uh, a hissy fit to get a win.

I have no dog in the fight, really, but if you ask the guys in the bunch who they think deserved the win based on how the race unfolded, I think the vast majority would say Beardsley. This is the right outcome.

Steven filed a formal protest per protocol. The board reviewed all photos and video of the event and consulted with officials, including the chief ref at the event, and other riders contesting the sprint. I believe we came to the appropriate decision. I assure you, the board is not concerned with "hissy fits." We are concerned about safe and fair officiating of bicycle races.

So great to see someone throw a hissy fit and get their win back. Beardsley's diva like attitude is just silly.
