MADISON, Wisc. — A couple of OBRA riders were in the mix during the first day of the USA Cycling Amateur Road Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.

The U23 men and junior women tested their legs in the road race, with Bontrager Development Team, the former squad of Bend’s Ian Boswell, taking the top two spots in the U23 race. Corvallis rider Ryan Miller (Hagens Berman) finished 18th in a stacked field.

The U23 Men raced six laps of the 23.3km course at Blue Mound State Park outside of Madison for 140km. The Junior 17-18 women looped the course three times for 70km, while the 15-to-16-year-old girls went around twice for 49km.

Tigard’s Hannah McDade (Exergy-twenty16) finished 24th in the women’s Junior 15-16 race.

Racing continues Friday with individual time trials for everyone. The Junior and Cat. 1 men will decide their 2013 road race champions Saturday on the Blue Mound course. [Elite amateur women competed at the inaugural women's US Professional Championships earlier this year in Chattanooga, Tennessee]. Criterium champions will be decided on Sunday.
