Chris Sheppard won his second Crusade race of 2012 Sunday at Portland International Raceway.

PORTLAND — British rider Louise Robinson (Islabikes) stormed onto the Cross Crusade standings Sunday by taking the win during series race #3 at Portland International Raceway. Men’s week #1 winner Chris Sheppard (Rocky Mountain Bicycles) added another victory to his 2012 tally as he prepares to defend his Canadian national championship next month.

Robinson, a 2000 Olympian in mountain bike cross country and the 2011 winner of the legendarily difficult Three Peaks cyclocross race in England, easily rode away from the women’s field, which caught the masters men about three-fourths of the way through their first lap. Beth Ann Orton (Team S&M) led the chase, with Alice Pennington dangling about five seconds behind for most of the race. Robinson had little difficulty maintaining her advantage to the finish, with Orton coming in nearly a minute down. Pennington crossed the line for third, while Tina Brubaker (Speedvagen) grabbed fourth. Bridgette Brown (River City Bicycles) rounded out the top five for the Elite women.

In the men’s race, Sheppard and Molly Cameron (Portland Bicycle Studio) battled early before Sheppard opened up a sizable gap that he continued to build on all the way to the finish. Cameron held on for second, nearly two minutes down. Shannon Skerritt (Corsa Concepts) crossed the line nearly two-and-a-half minutes after Sheppard for third. Donald Reeb (Cyclocrossracing.com) finished fourth, while Michael Gallagher (Corsa Concepts) grabbed fifth.
