VANCOUVER, Wash. — OBRA’s second race of the season, Sunday’s Jack Frost Time Trial in Vancouver, also marks the first race of this year’s new OBRA Time Trial Cup, an eight-race series that runs now through the end of  August.

The familiar 12.4-mile out-and-back Jack Frost course starts at Vancouver Lake Park and cruises west on flat, smooth roads along the Columbia river before turning back east for the run to the finish. Colby Wait-Molyneux (Hammer/CMG Racing), winner of last weekend’s Cherry Pie Road Race, set the fastest time at the 2011 Jack Frost, clocking in at 25:53. Josh Liberles (HP Chiro/Alpine Mortgage) came in 10 seconds slower to claim the runner-up spot. Anna Christiansen (Ironclad Performance Wear) set the fastest women’s time last year at exactly 30 minutes. Sarah Tisdale (Sorella Forte) was runner up at 30:40.

New for this year will be an “Eddy Merckx” category – road bikes only, no aero equipment allowed – for the purists. Registration for the 2012 Jack Frost Time Trial closes Friday at midnight. Sunday’s check in begins at 8 a.m. at Vancouver Lake Park and closes at 9 a.m. The first rider goes off at 9:45.

The 2012 OBRA Time Trial Cup will continue at the Southern Oregon Time Trial in Medford on March 17. The series competition will be points based, with points awarded to the top 15 finishers in each category. Each rider’s final score will be based on the best seven of eight races.
