2012 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships

MADISON, Wisc. — Katie Compton (Rabobank) quickly stomped away from the field Sunday to win her eighth-straight stars-and-stripes jersey by two minutes during the Elite women’s race on the final day of the 2012 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships at Badger Prairie Park outside of Madison.

Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld’s Katie Antonneau, who won the Collegiate race on Friday and counts this as her second-consecutive U23 win, finished second ahead of Teal Stetson-Lee (Cal Giant Strawberry) and teammate Nicole Duke. Portland’s Sue Butler (River City Bicycles/Ridley) got a quick start but faded back to seventh place by the end of the 40-minute event. Portland’s Alice Pennington (Upper Echelon Fitness) had a great race with a 15th-place finish, while 2011 Cross Crusade overall winner Serena Bishop Gordon, of Bend, finished 22nd. Beth Orton of Portland finished 27th.
