Future Cross to benefit juniors

BEND — Honey Stinger is sponsoring the Junior cyclocross races at Future Cross on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Seventh Mountain Resort. All proceeds from Future Cross benefit the non-profit CXmas Junior Fund, which awards travel scholarships annually to juniors attending the US National Cyclocross Championships. This year’s championships are in Madison, Wisc., in January 2013.

Future Cross will have races for all categories, including Beginners and Juniors, as well as a Kiddie Cross race for kids 9 and younger. Juniors 10 to 18 will race in two-year age groups, and all Junior racers will receive a Honey Stinger Organic Waffle.

“It’s great that a company like Honey Stinger, which is concerned about using organic ingredients to make quality energy foods is stepping up and supporting junior racing,” says Powered by Bowen owner Bart Bowen, the promoter of Future Cross. “It’s good to teach juniors about proper nutrition and how it can lead to good sports performance.”

Pre-registration is available at Powered by Bowen during normal office hours, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by mailing an OBRA waiver and payment to: Powered by Bowen – Future Cross, 143 SW Century Dr, Suite 100, Bend, Oregon, 97702. Entry fees for adults are $15 through September 21 and $20 the day of the event. Additional races are $10 each, and the entry for Juniors is $10. The Kiddie Cross race is free.

Packet pickup and the last day to pre-register is Friday, September 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Powered by Bowen. Registration on the day of the event opens at 8 a.m. at Seventh Mountain Resort. Racing begins at 8 a.m. and runs throughout the day. For more information on Future Cross, including the race schedule, visit www.poweredbybowen.com, or call 541.585.1500.
