BEND — USA Cycling recently announced that the 2013 Masters Road National Championships will return to Bend for a third-consecutive year in 2013.

After receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from riders following the 2011 event, USA Cycling asked Visit Bend to make a bid to host the 2013 event as well, and Visit Bend was happy to oblige.

“Our relationship with USA Cycling has been the cornerstone of our events business for the past couple of years,” said Doug LaPlaca, Visit Bend’s President and CEO.

The 2010 event saw more than 900 participants, plus additional support staff and spectators. In 2011, the event attracted more than 3,000 people for an average stay of eight nights. The estimated economic impact of the five-day event exceeded $1 million in direct consumer spending, according to Visit Bend.

Dates for the 2012 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships are set for Sept. 5-9. Dates for the 2013 championships have not yet been set, but the races must take place between the end of June and the beginning of August and can’t conflict with UCI World Championships for Masters men and women.
