Colby Wait-Molyneux (Hammer/CMG Racing) will get a chance to test himself against the best this September at the UCI Junior World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Seventeen-year-old Wait-Molyneux, of Vancouver, Wash., will compete in the Junior 17-18 time trial and hopes to ride in the road race as well, although that decision won’t come until September. Wait-Molyneux earned his worlds berth with a win in the individual time trial stage of the Nations Cup Tour l’Abitibi, covering the 12.4-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 9 seconds. He earned the Best Young Rider jersey for the race and finished third overall.
Wait-Molyneux has been racing in Europe this month with the USA Cycling Junior National Team, competing in several one-day races in Belgium. He recently finished fifth in the time trial stage of the Nations Cup Trofeo Karlsberg in Germany, and he’ll compete in a Swiss stage race just 10 days before the world championships, which run Sept. 19-25. The Junior time trial is Sept. 20.
