Skerritt, McDermid win STX overall

PORTLAND — It took eight tries but the Pro men’s field at the Portland MTB Short Track Series managed to knock Shannon Skerritt (Corsa Concepts) off the top step of the podium Monday night.

Skerritt won the overall and all but the last race of the eight-week series, but Aaron Tuckerman (29er Crew-Bike Gallery) crossed the line first on the final night. Skerritt also placed second to Nick Gibson (Yakima Bike Vigilantes) in the Singlespeed race earlier in the evening.

Sue Butler (River City Bicycles) got her second win of the series, returning to the infield at PIR after an extended absence since winning week #2 on June 13, her only other series appearance. Butler finished ahead of series leader Brooke McDermid (, who wrapped up the 2011 overall win with her second-place finish. Abra McNair (Showers Pass) finished third Monday night.

More than 430 rider competed Monday night at the final race of the short track series. The four-week Salem MTB Short Track Series at the Oregon State Fairgraounds  began Monday night and runs through Aug.22.
