Oregonians collect track natz medals

CARSON, Calif. — Oregon riders collected a nice little pile of medals last week at the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships at the Home Depot Center velodrome outside of Los Angeles, bringing home two gold, three silver and three bronze medals. They also earned a quartet of fourth-place finishes and three fifth-place spots.

Kevin Mansker, formerly of Eugene and Portland, won two national champion jerseys, taking the men’s time trial and then the team sprint with Portland’s Dean Tracy and Michael Bltachford of California. All three riders compete on the Portland-based Project London 2012 squad that is targeting next summer’s Olympic games. Mansker also won a bronze in the sprint competition and silvers in the time trial and flying time trial.

Bike Centrals’ Jen Featheringhill earned a silver medal in the flying time trial and took bronze in the team sprint with Dana Feiss. Jake Hansen (Word-RCB) brought home a silver medal in the points race after escaping late in the race and gaining a lap (and 20 points) over the field on the last corner of the final lap. Hansen also earned a bronze in the team pursuit with fellow Portland riders Zac Kovalcik and Al Urbanski of Diamond Law Cycling. Sunday’s Madison brought two more medals for Oregon riders, with Kovalick and partner Dan Harm taking bronze, and Glover winning a bronze medal with partner Shelby Reynolds.
