Mansker sets new Kilo mark

PORTLAND — Kevin Mansker fired the first shot of this weekend’s Alpenrose Velodrome Challenge Friday evening, breaking the track Kilo record previously held by Per Bjesse (Pactimo).

The Project London 2012 rider covered the 1,000 meter time trial in 1:07.79, a half second faster than the previous mark of 1:08.29, which Bjesse set in 2009 after Marty Nothstein’s record had held for nearly a decade. T.J Mathieson (Atomic Momentum) was second Friday at 1:08.46. Travis Smith (Team Canada) claimed third with a time of 1:08.87. Bjesse finished fifth at 1:10.56.

In the Senior women’s 500 meter opening test, Monique Sullivan (Team PLC) claimed the top spot with a time of 0:37.43. Dana Feiss (Home Depot) earned a second-place finish with a time of 0:37.74. Gillian Carlton (Oak Bay Bicycles) finished third with a mark of 0:38.33.

Day 1 of the AVC started with 4k pursuits for the Senior men and 3k for the women. Dan Harm (Broadmark) set the best time for the men at 4:58.07. Emile DeRosnay (Brihop) was second at 5:07.75. Jake Hansen (Word-RCB) grabbed third at 5:10.09. Bell Lap Racing’s Elizabeth Newell set the fastest time for the Senior women at 4:00.72. Gillian Carlton (Oak Bay Bicycles) was second at 4:02.10. Megan Hottman (Primal Pro) took the third spot with a time of 4:03.16.
