HENRY HAGG LAKE — Results are in and Ryan Carlson’s second-place finish at Banana Belt #3 was good enough to win the 2011 men’s Pro/1/2 series overall.
Carlson came into Sunday’s final race sitting third, 11 points behind Jake Hansen and Taylor Knueven, who were tied for the lead with 38 points. While the two series leaders marked each other in the pack, Carlson got away in a small bridging group on the penultimate lap and eventually finished second on the day, good for 18 series points. Kneuven beat Hansen to the line in a tight sprint, but the pair finished 21st and 22nd, well out of the series points.
In the women’s Cat 1/2 competition, Jen Akeroyd won from a small finishing group and took the overall series lead from Sorella Forte teammate Leia Tyrrell, who missed the final Banana Belt to attend a collegiate race. Lindsay Fox finished second on the day and moved into second for the series. Tyrrell was third overall.
