Butler wins 40-44 championship
BEND — Cyclocross star Sue Butler (River City Bicycles) took her first national title Saturday on the road in Bend. The Portland rider won the Women’s 40-44 road race at the USAC Masters Road National Championships after breaking away with one other rider.
Butler and Debbie Milne (Belden, Miss./Absolute Racing Team-MSMOC) opened a gap on the field as they rode through their second lap before deciding the outcome in a sprint. Brenna Lopez-Otero, who won the 40-44 criterium championship Thursday, finished fifth.
In other racing, Tawnie McDonald of Bend finished third in the women’s 45-49 race. Jan Moss finished fifth in the 50-54 event.
