Boswell headed for Olympic test
LONDON — Ian Boswell will test his legs this weekend on the course that will be used for the 2012 London Olympic road race. Boswell is on the provisional start list for the U.S. team — along with Tyler Farrar and five other riders — scheduled to compete in the London-Surrey Cycle Classic Aug. 14.
An international field of 28 national and continental teams will compete in this weekend’s 140 km event. The Olympic race will be longer at 200 km. Other riders on the provisional start list include 2012 medal hopefuls Mark Cavendish, Tom Boonen, Sylvain Chavanel, Sacha Modolo and Matt Goss.
Boswell and his Trek-Livestrong teammates were originally scheduled to race this week’s Tour of Utah, where he finished third overall last year. But UCI regulations caused the race to rescind its invitation to the U23 development team because its parent program, Radioshack, would also be in the race.
