BAKER CITY — The Elkhorn Classic Stage Race rolls out of Baker City today for its 10th running.

The Three-day, four-stage race starts with the 76-mile Oregon Trail Road Race before riders face the Saturday doubleheader time trial and criterium. The infamous 102-mile Dooley Mountain Road Race closes things out on Sunday. All categories race the same distances (except for the crit) at Elkhorn, and there are no time cut offs, so everyone gets to race as much as they want.

Team Exergy’s Chris Hong won the men’s Pro/1/2 race last year. His current teammate Sam Johnson, riding last year for Hagens Berman, finished second. Chris Lyman (Team Specialized) was third. Talyer Wiles, riding for Primal/Rocky Mountain Colavita, won the women’s race in front of Velofroma’s Teri Sheasby Team Delphine’s Amy Frykman. Wiles signed a professional contact with the Peanut Butter & Co. Twenty-12 team this year and was recently at Mt. Hood supporting team leader Kristin Armstrong’s win.

FRIDAY: Stage 1 Oregon Trail Road Race; 73 miles; 6,515 feet of climbing

SATURDAY: Stage 2 Pleasant Valley Time Trial; 11.3 mile out-and-back course; 411 feet of climbing.

SATURDAY: Stage 3 Gold Rush Criterium; 1km L-shaped course in Downtown Baker City.
