Butler, Arguello start Tabor Series with wins

PORTLAND — Sue Butler continued her unbeaten streak on Mt. Tabor with a win in the first race of the Wednesday night series. The River City Bicycles rider finished the Senior Women’s race solo, with Bridgetown Velo’s Anne Davis Usher following for second. Ironclad Performance Wear’s Anna Christiansen finished third.

In the Senior Men’s race, Austin Arguello (Team Exergy) chased down a late-race breakaway just meters from the line to take the win. Jake Hansen (Word-RCB) and Brendan Treacy (Portland Velo) almost made the breakaway work but had to settle for second and third, respectively, after Arguello’s last second burst was enough to push him out front of the rest of the chasers and the breakaway.

Joe Prettyman appears to have the Mt. Tabor course nailed, winning the Cat 3 race the same way he won the circuit race there a few weeks ago: by finding a winning move and then dropping his breakaway companion on the way to the line, soloing in over the last handful of laps.
