Bedford, Fletcher win PIR Monday Night races

Stephen Bedford (Word-RCB) won the final sprint and the overall in the Masters 1/2/3 race.
PORTLAND — Word-RCB’s Stephen Bedford took the top spot in the Masters 1/2/3 event at the PIR Monday Night races with a strong showing in the hot spots and a winning effort in the finale.
Bedford finished the evening with 20 points, six better that second-placed John Mitchem (Guinness Cycling Team) and seven better than third-placed Christian Tresser (Cyclepath). A crash in the finale of the Masters 4/5 race caused momentary hesitation for the 1/2/3 sprint as the field had to dodge a rider laying in the middle of the finishing straight.
Bridgetown Velo brought serious numbers to the Senior Women’s race and swept the podium with Sara Fletcher in first, followed by teammates Jenn Levo in second and Anne Davis Usher in third. Team Oregon’s Aaron Aiken avoided the last-corner crash and won the Masters 4/5 race ahead of Portland Mercury’s Robert Crocker and Team Oregon’s Brian Engelhard. PSU’s Emily Francis won the Novice Women’s race ahead of Cindy McCasker (Portland Velo) and Jen Tucker. Michael Girard won the Masters Novice Men’s race ahead of Lorne Cross and Dustin Harder (Harder Cycling).
