Chris King and the photographers of PDXCROSS.com have come up with another intriguing way to expand the local component maker’s pink-based line of Pretty and Strong products.

The campaign has benefited the Oregon and SW Washington chapters of Komen for the Cure for the past seven years.

The new addition to Pretty and Strong is a wall calendar that the creative forces involved hope will help raise awareness about breast cancer. The calendar features the captivating black-and-white photography of PDXCROSS along with breast cancer information and reminders about getting tested.

Photographer Torsten Kjellstrand said PDXCROSS got involved after his wife came up with the idea. It immediately seemed like a perfect fit.

“They’ve got the campaign going already,” he said. “And Chris King is the kind of company any of us would be proud to have anything to do with.”

Kjellstrand approached the company with the idea, and the wheels were set in motion. Now the completed product is for sale on Chris King’s website.

“We don’t know what it’s going to do, but we hope it does some good things,” Kjellstarnd said. “It also feels nice for us to have our pictures doing something besides being cool to look at, which we hope they are, too.”

Chris King hopes you’ll enjoy the pictures and maybe learn something about an important issue as well.

“Our shared effort with this calendar is more than an intimate look at the joy and tenacity of the women we see racing cyclocross each weekend during the fall,” the company said on its website. “It’s a call to awareness for early detection, because breast cancer still doesn’t care how fit or fast you are on a bike.”

You can purchase the calendar on Chris King’s website for $15. All proceeds go to Oregon and SW Washington chapters of Komen for the Cure.
